Ash Wednesday Bible Journaling and Reflection

Long time, no blog. It has been 6 weeks of crazy since Christmas but things are getting back to semi normal around here so I wanted to share my heart with you today!

It's Ash Wednesday. Many Christians observe Ash Wednesday as the beginning of Lent, a time of reflection leading up to Holy Week and the Death and Resurrection of Jesus. This is what I am reflecting today:

Ash Wednesday is a day to remember my humanness and mortality. This helps me to begin a Lenten Journey of reflection & drawing near to Jesus. I am a weak and fallen human. It is common to hear your church leaders quote Genesis 3:19 on Ash Wednesday. "...from dust you were made and to dust you will return". It is a reminder that when Adam chose to sin for the first time he traded his immortality for the life of a weak and mortal person. This was bad news for Adam and it is bad news for us. . .

But we have HOPE! Ashes are almost always put on the forehead in the shape of a cross. We are reminded that God entered our Humanness and Jesus Death and Ressurection sets us FREE from the death we deserve. We can have eternal life. Hallelujah!!

My Prayer: Jesus, as I remember my humanity, help me to recognize the HOPE you offer because of the cross! AMEN!
