Bible Journaling. On Miracles, The Ax Head, and The Wedding

Hi! Guess what? I got me a new book and I couldn't wait to dive right in! I am reading The Grave Robber by Mark Batterson. Mark is one of my favorite authors. You may recognize him as the author of The Circle Maker. I simply love reading his books! I am able to draw parallels to my own experiences and shed light on God's work in my life that I may not have recognized before. The Grave Robber is an in depth look at seven miracles of Jesus in the Gospel of John. I have just started the book and the first miracle happens when Jesus is encouraged by his mother. He turns water to wine at the wedding in Cana.

One of my favorite themes in the Bible is when we get a glimpse of how much God truly cares for us. Remember the story in 2 Kings chapter 6? Seven little verses tell the tale of God using Elisha to restore a lost ax head to his servant. The servant was devastated when his borrowed ax head landed in the Jordan river but Elisha knew that God would take care of him. He tossed a stick into the water and the iron ax head floated right to the top! Guys, this story is smack in the middle of of 2 amazing tales, the healing of a general and the deliverance of the Israelite Army.  God CARES for us. God ROCKS!

Back to John chapter 2. The Wedding! The hosts were awfully embarrassed to run out of wine before the end of the celebration... I journaled an actual quote from The Grave Robber right onto the margin of my Bible. Batterson says: "I love the fact that this first miracle of Jesus is not about saving a life. It is about saving face! And it reveals how much God cares about the minute details of our lives. God is great not just because nothing is too big. God is great because nothing is too small. It it's a big deal to you, it's a big deal to God."

Nothing is too big or too small for my God!!

Bible Journaling Genesis 49 The Second Advent and the Lion of the Tribe of Judah

Genesis 49:8-10
“Judah, your brothers shall praise you;
your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies;
your father's sons shall bow down before you.
Judah is a lion's cub;
from the prey, my son, you have gone up.
He stooped down; he crouched as a lion
and as a lioness; who dares rouse him?
The scepter shall not depart from Judah,
nor the ruler's staff from between his feet,
until tribute comes to him;
and to him shall be the obedience of the peoples.

Advent. Anticipate. The anticipation is the best part for Christians. While we certainly celebrate the birth of the Savior of the world and remember that Jesus came to the earth a sacrificial lamb, a poor baby sleeping in a manger we can anticipate that He will return in a much grander fashion. When we all see Him in the clouds (Mark 13:26) we will know that He is not only a lamb. We will all see that He is The Lion of the Tribe of Judah.

When we think of the baby in a manger we have advantages the Shepherds didn't see that night. We can understand that The Gospel tells us that the King will return. Back then, they shouted that He was not a king. That He couldn't even save Himself. (Matthew 27:42) But He still holds the scepter. It's the promise God made way back in Genesis 49. He rose on the third day and He is coming back in glory! So this is my drawing. I will celebrate the birth of the Lion this Advent and wait for His mighty and glorious return! What are you anticipating this season? Whatever it is, friend. We can rest on the knowledge that our God keeps His promises and live with HOPE because Jesus was born, died and raised again.

The Answer to a Common Question - Why I Do Bible Art Journaling

Let's chat! I am often asked why I Art Journal in my Bible. Today I sat down with my Bible I and I smiled like a momma bear looking down at the pretty tabs, the wrinkly pages and the fun colors. My Bible makes me happy. But these are not the reasons I do Bible Journaling. I thought about how blessed I am to be created a creative and how art gives me great joy. But these are not the reasons I do Bible Journaling. I turned my Bible on it's end and noticed how full it is. It doesn't even come close to closing. In fact, it looks like the spine might just erupt. And THAT is why I do Art Journaling in my Bible. Not because my Bible is so full, but because my relationship with The Word, The Living God, My Jesus is so FULL!

Because my relationship is full, my heart is full, my home is full, my JOY is full. Bible Journaling gets me into The Word. It stirs me to meditation and prayer. It prompts me to read devotionals, ask questions and google what I do not fully understand. I am able to fall deeper into Jesus every time I open the pages, splash some paint, stamp a sentiment. The reason I journal in my Bible is Jesus. The reason I keep filling the pages with color, art, and prayers is because I CRAVE the relationship and I am so very amazed at how it grows with every stroke of the paint brush. Y'all I am convinced my Bible pages are hanging on God's refrigerator. I am His child. And He is my God. And that is why I Journal in my Bible.
