Let's Talk About Forgiveness!

Hi Friends!

I journaled part of this page on periscope Saturday. The broadcast is gone but I wanted to get my thoughts on the verses down so I have written up this little devotional.

John 21:15-17
When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter,
“Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?”
He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.”
He said to him, “Feed my lambs.”
He said to him a second time,
“Simon, son of John, do you love me?”
He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.”
He said to him, “Tend my sheep.”
He said to him the third time,
“Simon, son of John, do you love me?”
Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time,
“Do you love me?” and he said to him,
“Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.”
Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.

Here we see Jesus ask Peter 3 times if Peter loves him. Do you guys know that numbers have very significant meanings in the Bible? For example, the number 40 is a number associated with a time of hardship or a time when one's faith is being tested. The number 12 is a number of wholeness or fullness but the number 3 is the number of salvation! Jonah was released from the belly of the fish on the 3rd day. Saul (Paul) regained his sight on the 3rd day, and, of course, Jesus was raised on the third day.

Jesus offers forgiveness to Peter for his denial in 3 fold. Remember how Peter denied knowing Jesus 3 times just before the Crucifixion? I know Peter was feeling the sting when Jesus asked the question the third time. Please notice something... Peter did not ask for forgiveness.

Think about this, how man sins did you commit before Jesus was crucified? Of course the answer is zero. But Jesus died for your sins anyhow. I want you to know that if you are saved. That is, if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus Christ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, then your sins are covered by the blood of Jesus. More than ask forgiveness, all we really have to do is accept it. God is so good!!!

I wanted this message of the love of Jesus to really pop in my Journaling Bible so I used so bright paints and fun retro stamps from my shop to drive the point home!
